THE CHOIR OF ST. MARYS UNITED CHURCH
Timothy Gilbert, B.Mus., B.Ed., HonCIL - Director of Music & Organist
Music is an integral part of our worship at St. Marys United Church. The choir consists of 20 dedicated singers who enjoy each other's company and singing to the glory of God. Our repertoire is wide and varied, ranging from Tudor anthems to spirituals to contemporary compositions.
We punctuate the church year with music that reflects the liturgy and mood of the season. At Christmas, we present the traditional Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols and in the past we have explored Choral Evensong in Lent and the presentation of The Crucifixion by John Stainer on Good Friday.
THE ORGAN
The pipe organ at St. Marys United Church is a splendid three-manual Casavant Frères instrument, Opus 281, installed in 1907. It has been upgraded many times over the years, including new pipe work and new a console in 1979 and a solid state computer control system about 10 years ago. In 2011, thousands of additional voices and sounds were added by the installation of the Rodgers MX-200 MIDI sound expansion module, giving the organist access to several different 32' pedal stops, amongst other voices.
